Organizing your digital photos, what do you use?

by jandrews on May.03, 2009, under Photography

This has been something that has been kicking my ass for a very long time. I have probably about 300-400GB of digital photos I have taken over the years, and one of the things that I have yet to find is a way of organizing them that makes me happy. None of the applications that I have used allow me to manage them the way I want too.

First off I am looking for Mac OS X solutions, I have no intention of moving over to windows. I have tried iPhoto, Aperture, and Lightroom. I want IPTC access, and while Aperture and Lightroom offer IPTC they both fail in their execution. The thing that really keeps me from using either of these applications is the inability to batch change image IPTC data after importation. The last thing I want to do is have to go through and separate my images before I import them, and editing each images IPTC data post importation SUCKS ASS! iPhoto is pretty lack luster in my opinion. I tried Shoebox Pro, which is lame lame lame. Total resource hog, and the interface sucks. I don’t want to just throw them in folders either because many would fit more than one category. Also, please do not suggest online solutions, I want something local.

It’s driving me crazy. I just want to spend a day organizing photos and be done with it.

In a separate note, I am also really hoping the next Macbooks have USB3.0 USB 2.0 is too slow!
